The post-conciliar collapse to which traditionalists point was not the fault of the council as such, but of the opportunistic co-optation of the council by the forces of accommodationist progressivism. Attempts being made to ignore the magisteria of John Paul and Benedict as if they never happened and as if we can move forward with a different hermeneutic for the council more in tune with a progressivist reading of the council as the establishment of a “process” rather than a set of normative theological principles.
