Many would like to see mifepristone, one of two drugs that can be taken together to terminate a pregnancy, made available in pharmacies. The problem is that mifepristone is not equivalent to a flu vaccine or even birth control, both of which can be prescribed by pharmacists in some states. An induced abortion is a medically generated event that results in fetal death. One in five women who take abortion pills experience complications, such as hemorrhaging or infection. Incomplete abortions may require surgery.
