The Nicaraguan dictatorship of President Daniel Ortega (and his “co-president” and wife, Rosario Murillo) has banned, for the third consecutive year, religious street processions in the country. According to Confidencial, a newspaper in Managua, the dictatorship is deploying 14,000 police officers to prevent processions during Holy Week, the start of the dictatorship’s “Summer 2025 Plan,” which has two provisions aimed at priests: to avoid arrest, they must not authorize processions, and they must not mention anything against the government in homilies.
