Following his lung cancer surgery, Catholics from around the world have continued to congregate at Gemelli Hospital to pray for the Holy Father.

ROME — What does an Instagram story have in common with a Rosary? Outside Gemelli Hospital, where Pope Leo XIV will remain for about a week after his Oct. 13 lung cancer surgery, both are being used by the faithful to gather Catholics around the world in prayer for the Pontiff.

Since Pope Leo was admitted to the hospital for the removal of a cancerous nodule from his lung, Gemelli has become a site for the faithful from around the world to hold vigil for the Holy Father, whose room is on the 10th floor.

And even with the news that the Pope is recovering well from his surgery, the prayers haven’t stopped coming. Nor have Catholics, who have been gathering outside the hospital to pray for his full recovery.

Since Pope Leo’s admission to Gemelli, the faithful have left prayer cards, candles and rosaries next to the statue of St. John Paul II — himself treated at the same hospital during his papacy — that stands in front of the facility.
