Trudeau’s government’s policies on abortion, euthanasia, and the residential school controversy drew strong criticism from Canadian Catholic leaders who pushed back strongly against some of these actions, particularly the government’s introduction of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID). Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, whose party is far ahead of the ruling Liberals in current public opinion polls, has led the charge opposing the latest bid to expand MAID.
