President Joe Biden awarded Cecile Richards, former Planned Parenthood president, the Presidential Medal of Freedom in a private ceremony, the White House said. Richards, who is also a progressive activist and the daughter of the late Texas Gov. Ann Richards, left Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, in 2018 after 12 years at its helm. Richards replied in an X post that the medal is “an honor representing abortion rights and the need for health care for all.”
