Many conspiracy theories are spreading these days, as inevitably they do in periods of crisis and scant information. It seems unlikely, for example, that Pope Francis would change the rules of the conclave, as has been rumored, and so blatantly telegraph his desire for personal control over the race for his successor. Such a decision would be one few could accept and almost certainly would create a common front against the pope.
