Celebration of the 800th Anniversary of the Christmas Nativity Scene, in San Diego

The Franciscan family invites you to a joyous bilingual celebration of the 800th anniversary of the Christmas Nativity scene created by St. Francis of Assisi. On Nov. 16 at 6:30pm, a prayer ritual, consisting of Readings and Carols, will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Old Town, San Diego. Please bring a figurine from your own family Christmas crèche to be blessed and brought back home for your family Christmas celebration.

In the year 1223, St. Francis of Assisi prepared a live Nativity scene near the village of Greccio, Italy. St. Francis wanted the People of God to experience the humanity of Jesus and the poor circumstances of his birth in a stable in Bethlehem. Beginning with his humble birth, Jesus lived a fully human life, in order to show us how to do the same. Please join us to hear more about and celebrate the joyous event at Greccio on that Christmas Eve night.

The Franciscan Family looks forward to celebrating this beautiful 800th anniversary with you!
