“Glimpses of Final Victory”

Tolkien wrote: “I am a Christian and indeed a Roman Catholic, so that I do not expect ‘history’ to be anything but a long defeat – though it contains … some samples or glimpses of final victory.” Catholics in the 21st century in the western world are certainly familiar with the long defeat of which Tolkien wrote. But what are our glimpses of final victory? How can we have hope given everything that is happening at the moment?
About the Speaker: Monica Doumit is the Director of Public Affairs and Engagement for the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, Australia, engaging in policy and communications for issues such as abortion, euthanasia, marriage, and religious freedom. She is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Notre Dame Australia and a regular columnist for the Catholic Weekly. Prior to working for the Archdiocese, Ms. Doumit spent ten years working as a corporate lawyer in Sydney and London, and holds degrees in Law and Medical Science, a diploma in Finance and a Masters in Bioethics.
